ROSELYNE BACHELOT
“I love Culture too much to become its Minister. “
At 73 years old, Roselyne Bachelot – a doctor of pharmacy by training – returns to the forefront of the political scene after an 8-year absence, by settling in Rue de Valois, at the Ministry of Culture.
Minister of Ecology under Jacques Chirac, then of Health and Sports in the government of Nicolas Sarkozy, the ex-fillonist then becomes essential to take up the cultural challenge awaiting France, upon exiting its confinement.
“I will not come back, unless I am offered Culture. “
Yet withdrawn from political life, she says she experienced the Coronavirus crisis as a former Minister of Health. To date – in the current circumstances we know – Roselyne Bachelot once again feels invested in the political and cultural challenges of France.
Popular with the French, she has remained a public face by participating in numerous television shows, or by hosting her own show on LCI, L’Heure de Bachelot, since 2017. It does not confer any snobbery on the culture and foresees it in all respects; for her, participating in Les Grosses Têtes or going to the Paris Opera every night is Culture. She likes it diverse, plural and undulating.
As a child, she remembers André Malraux visiting her parents … Like a nod to her childhood, she is particularly moved when she is offered the Ministry of Culture. She also feels great emotion when she is appointed to the Ministry of Health, considering that her office has never ceased to be that of Simone Veil.
“Culture is a very beautiful jewel that the Republic wears on it. “
Passionate about lyric opera, her taste for the culture and the people who inhabit it is immoderate. She wants to be the Minister of Artists, and as a knowledgeable feminist, she wants to promote artistic creation by young women.
For the next two years of the Macron five-year term, Roselyne Bachelot has set herself the goal of “deconfining” culture. The wait is growing, especially since the crisis situation in France is raising the dice: the model before can no longer be.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Labor, the cultural reconstruction of France is akin to the labors of Hercules … The survival of cultural places – monuments, museums, theaters, theaters, parks in themes, festivals – all must readjust to allow economic viability and democratization at the territorial level.
At the heart of a civic approach, Roselyne Bachelot wants to make culture and creation everyone’s business. With 62% of opinions won over by her personality, she is the most popular minister in government. We are convinced that its action will be beneficial to French heritage.
