MONET, RENOIR… CHAGALL
MEDITERRANEAN TRIPS
In these unusual times, the Atelier des Lumières brightens up the atmosphere by offering us a fascinating exhibition from the times of the Impressionists.
The visitor is invited into the heart of the Mediterranean for a sunbath, by artists who two centuries earlier, discovered the natural beauty of the French Riviera.
Thanks to the inauguration of a railway line linking Paris to Marseille in 1857, the contemporary artists left Paris – with an easel under their arm – to travel to the South of France. They then experience a new reality, inspired by the colors and scents they discover.
To feel the moment’s truth becomes a leitmotiv for those who will soon be called “the Impressionists”. They are part of a new contemplative approach, inspired by the Japanese prints that fascinate Westerners.
Alongside Monet, Renoir, Pissaro, the visitor can invite himself into their paintings which come to life thanks to the digital prowess. Sounds, images, and lights come together beautifully to create an immersive illusion.
This exhibition, in the colors of the South, surrounds us with a soft warmth – similar to that of the seaside – to reveal the influence of Impressionism, from Fauvism to Pointillism, up to the neo-Impressionist works of Signac, Matisse, Derain, Vlaminck, or Chagall.
